Benefits and Responsibilities
Here are just some of the benefits and responsibilities for Real Life Christian Academy home school families:

Credibility
1.      Each student must complete the application process that each traditional student to the Academy completes. This process includes entrance placement testing, administrator interview and references. Real Life Christian Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national origin.

2.      The Academy will maintain an official cum folder (or database record) for each student that includes test results, health records, instruction objectives, evaluations, etc.  The Academy can send school records to schools or scholarship organizations upon your request.

3.      All previous high school home school credits will be evaluated before being transferred into the Real Life Christian Academy traditional or home school division.

4.      All graduates from the RLCA home school division may receive a diploma from our program.

5.      Students may transfer into the RLCA traditional program at the grade level their assessment tests indicate without further application. Students completing at least 12th grade through the traditional program may graduate from our traditional program.

Accountability
1.      As part of the admissions process, each student will be assessed for grade level placement at the Academy using the benchmarks established by traditional program students. This provides the parent with vital information on a child’s academic progress in comparison to other students. Upon parent request this placement test may be given each year beyond initial acceptance for a fee.

2.      Once per semester, the school adviser will meet with the home school parent to review the yearly plan, evaluate progress, and make suggestions for creative approaches, review curriculum, academic plan and assess special needs of students.

3.      The Academy requires all students to participate in Real Life’s standardized testing each year. The Stanford Achievement Test and the OLSAT abilities test are administered over a three to four day period in the spring.

4.      All home school parents must submit quarterly reports that detail progress for each student enrolled at the Academy. These become part of the student’s permanent cum folder and official school record.

Support
1.      We offer curriculum lists that our traditional students receive at Real Life Christian Academy. (Please note that because of publisher agreements we cannot order the curriculum for you.)

2.      Access to advice from experienced home school parents is invaluable. Academy advisers are available during regular business hours or by email to answer simple questions. Detailed advising or more in depth questions will be handled through home school counseling for an additional fee.

3.      Parents will receive access to our home school blog where they can post questions or suggestions to share with other home school parents.

4.      Students may take selected enrichment courses such as math, art, physical education, etc., as space permits. Per class tuition rates can be found on the home school tuition and fee rate sheet. All students who participate in this program must abide by on-campus regulations and rules, including dress code.

5.      Home school students may participate in many activities and programs available to our traditional program students. These are on a “space available” basis and require prior notice of participation. Students are responsible for all fees associated with these activities. Here are some of the opportunities:
  •  Weekly chapel services as space permits with prior notice.
  •  Extra-curricular activities, including athletic programs (as league rules allow), science fair, spelling bee, band, drama and other programs.
  • School sponsored field trips at the appropriate age level.
  • Students and parents will receive Academy library privileges.
6.      Home school students may arrange to use specialized rooms including the science lab, music room, art studio and gymnasium as schedules permit.

7.      The Academy offers at deep discounts any unused or retired curriculum that we have on hand.

8.      The Academy will sponsor home school peer events where parents and students can network and provide mutual support.

9.      The Academy will conduct periodic workshops for home school parents to enhance their teaching skill and competence.

10. Academy home school students may participate in Florida Virtual School and take Dual Enrollment classes at local community colleges.

11. Assessment and learning therapy are available through the National Institute for Learning Development program. Separate tuition rates apply.
