Kindergarten Academics
Bible - Positive Action
Students will cover thirty-five lessons covering creation through the first missionary, Paul. Each lesson includes memory verses, character traits, workbooks pages and songs.

Phonics and Reading - A Beka
Children learn to read through the use of phonics. An introduction to short vowels sounds and the sounds of only three consonants enable students to sound out their first words. As their reading develops, they will learn words with two vowels and words with special sounds. The curriculum includes a series of twelve readers which are completed in small reading groups.

Handwriting - A Beka
Children learn to write each letter of the alphabet in a program that is correlated with their phonics. As students learn to recognize the letters of the alphabet and what sound they say, they also learn to write blends, words, and sentences.

Science - A Beka
Even at a young age, children are curious about everything around them and are beginning to ask questions. The science text God’s World is a simple, exciting introduction to God’s universe and God’s plan for the children’s lives. Text units include “All About Me,” “Weather,” “Seasons,” “Seeds,” “Animals,” and “Seashores.”

Social Studies - A Beka
As children learn about people and places, they will see how God directs people’s lives to accomplish His will. The curriculum covers three units: Community Helpers; America, Our Great Country; and Children of our World.

Math - Bob Jones University Press
Students will understand math so that they may become problem solvers. Using concrete manipulatives to introduce new math concepts, students work and review daily to learn numbers 0-150; addition sums to 10; subtraction from 10; measurement including weight, size, capacity, length and height; time; money; geometry; and the use of a calendar.

Skills Development - A Beka
This year will cover social and personal skills including the teaching of Biblical character, health, and safety habits. They will also learn skills including visual perception using mazes, hidden shapes, and missing parts; motor coordination including coloring cutting, and directed art; and listening/thinking skills including
following directions, sequencing, classification, and riddles.

Computer - University Technology Partnership
Over the course of the year, kindergarteners are introduced to age appropriate levels of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Publisher, and Power Point. The regular classroom teacher provides projects based on the students’ curriculum, which is then integrated into the four technology programs. Student introduction to the worldwide web and web pages emphasizes internet safety.

Art - A Beka
Students learn the basic concepts of art through a variety of art and craft projects. Month-to-month projects include coloring, painting, tracing, cutting, drawing, and gluing. Our art projects correlate with academics, Bible teaching, and the changes and holidays that come with the seasons.
