Students will study multiple genres from many cultures including fables, drama, poetry, hymns, Scripture, short story, biography, autobiographical accounts, historical essays, fiction, novel, folktale, personal essay, humorous essay, and diary. One of the major goals is to help the student learn to interpret, analyze, and evaluate authors, works, themes, and terms with discernment.

Our writing curriculum begins with the fundamentals of grammar, mechanics and sentence structure and moves to the writing process—planning, drafting, revising, proofreading, thesis statement, outlining, introductory and concluding paragraphs, publishing, and paragraph development. We also teach the elements of style — precise words and the skill of showing not telling. Examples of writing projects include   biographical sketch, exposition, science report evaluation, family tradition report, drama scene, persuasive essay, letter to editor, poetry, descriptive essay, news story, business letters, autobiography, fable, debate script, and print advertisement.
