Pre-School 3 Academics
Bible - A Beka
The spiritual aspect of our school is the most important part of our morning routine. We begin our day with prayers for those in need, for our loved ones, and for each other. We introduce spiritual values of the Bible through verse memorization and biblical stories. Children learn stories of the Old Testament as well as study the life of Jesus. Scripture references are used throughout the day, especially when redirecting behavior and reinforcing good choices.

Beginning Phonics - A Beka
The pre-K3 curriculum, Letters and Sounds, introduces each letter with an animal alphabet friend. This animal friend helps the children recognize the letter as well as the letter’s sound. The curriculum is also designed to teach early writing skills. Children learn letter formation and practice hand-eye coordination as they glue items to the letter shapes, and trace over the letters.

Math and Skills Development - A Beka
In the Numbers & Skills text, our three-year-olds will learn math skills including counting to 15, eye-hand coordination, dot-to-dot, coloring, thinking and reasoning, and listening skills. The children are also introduced to the concepts of numbers, shapes, pairs, opposites, the sequence of events, and items which are alike and different. There is a focus on the awareness of environment: senses, seasons, weather, animals, countries, and transportation. Incorporated into the curriculum is a class Science project which is part of the schools annual Science Fair in January.

Art - A Beka
In addition to regular classroom art, pre-schoolers have art time with the school art teacher and learn the basics of art and craft concepts. They have the opportunity to enjoy art as they develop the fine motor skills needed to draw, color, cut, paste, and even paint. Student projects introduce basic art and craft concepts, and correlate with academics, Bible teaching and the changes of the season.

A typical day in pre-K3
The morning begins with the children greeting one another, spending some time in free play, and finding their names at their seats. Together, the children recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and then offer up individual and community prayers and prayer requests. After talking about daily assignments on the helper chart, the class reviews the calendar and weather of the day.

Bible study is an important part of the curriculum, and each week we learn and review a Bible verse. We also reinforce the verse with Bible stories and life applications.

The academic day continues with curriculum including letter formation, phonemic awareness, numeral associations,  symbol recognition, small motor skills exercises such as cutting and pasting, and work on themed projects.  After some student-choice small group work, the children clean up for snack time and outside play.

Creative movement and large group games are also used to teach the children to work together. The morning concludes with story time and a review of the day’s activities and lessons. The students learn to organize and pack up their belongings.
