Each year we choose a theme to focus the academy throughout the school year. For 2011-2012 our theme is "Let your gentleness be evident to all." The guiding passage of Scripture come from Philippians 4:5.
We live in a culture that often misunderstands the meaning of gentleness. The Greeks defined it as "power under control" and used the example of a harnessed horse or ox. It is harnessing the tool of kindness to respond to others. Our world today often mistakes aggression as a strength and mistakes gentleness for weakness. However, gentleness is never a false modesty, self-depreciation, or a cowardly refusal to stand for convictions. It takes great strength to be gentle especially when wronged. This is a trait that each academy student must exemplify and is a key strength for success as an adult.
Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.
